We spend so much time and energy on things and people we dislike. Why?
When I was a kid, I got frustrated shopping women clothing with Mom and sister. Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop for beautiful dresses, shoes, scarves, makeup and stuff. What I hate was when Mom and sister would spend 30 minutes looking at something they both disliked. They would spent 30 minutes standing in front of a show window, looking at a dress and critiquing the color, collar, length, pleats, belt, buttons and everything about the dress. Why would they spend so much time on something that they disliked so much? Mom and sister would move on to the next window and the same process would start all over again.
I think humans have this tendency to spend time on things/people they dislike. The more they dislike, the more time they would spend on critiquing it. It is not like those people or things will change or disappear just because we have spent so much time critiquing it.
Look at the amount of time TV and Social Media hosts spent on critiquing things and people they dislike. FoxNews, MSNBC are typical examples of that. If you need a strong dose of critiquing of anything, any day, just change the channel to FoxNews or MSNBC. If not enough, then go to Twitter, FaceBook and you will get all the critiques about the thing or people you hate.
Being a transgender woman, there are daily doses of hate showered against us. For a while, that bothered me a lot. The ignorance and hate against us can be stifling. After a while, I became numb and then actually turned curious to why people would spend so much time and energy to show their dislike of transgender women that are total strangers to them.
Why wouldn’t people just leave us transgender alone? Why wouldn’t people just live and let live? Showering all those hate must used up a lot of energy. Why not spend the energy on something productive? Like focus on your job and make a few bucks.
What do people gain by showering their hate on transgender?
We only live once. Let’s live. Make your life counts for you and your family. Don’t waste it on things and people you dislike.
